Chicago’s Historic Deep Dish Pizza

Brittany A. Louis, a New York-based media relations specialist, has more than seven years of experience in a variety of industries, including marketing and fashion. Outside of her current work as a freelance stylist and assistant, Brittany A. Louis enjoys experiencing the sights, sounds, and cuisine of major cities such as New Orleans and Chicago.

While Chicago’s food scene ranges from high-end Michelin-star eateries to casual steak restaurants, the city is probably best known for its deep-dish style of pizza. A legacy of its sizable Italian population, scores of Italian restaurants call Chicago home. Not surprisingly, the city was named the Best Pizza City by travel site TripAdvisor.

The first deep dish pizza was unveiled in 1943 by Italian-Americans Ric Riccardo and Ike Sewell, the proprietors of the first Pizzeria Uno. The thicker crust and hearty filling made a satisfying and resourceful meal for builders and workers during WWII. The pie has since grown in popularity. Today, there are over 130 Uno locations in 21 states.

Interesting Less-Visited Destinations in Thailand

Brittany A. Louis, a successful personal assistant and freelance stylist who has nearly 10 years of experience in the public relations industry, has worked for such companies as Paris Stations, Helen Yarmak International, and Mayer Brown, LLP. An avid traveler, Brittany A. Louis spent nearly two weeks in Thailand with her best friend.

Below are several less-visited destinations in Thailand worth seeing:

- Chiang Rai: Featuring a relaxed atmosphere, Chiang Rai’s art, language, music, and temples all reflect the city’s Lanna identity. Aside from its many cultural and historical offerings, Chiang Rai is home to a variety of wildlife as well as trails that make it ideal for hikers and nature-lovers.

- Sukhothai: Established in the 13th century, Sukhothai is a UNESCO World Heritage City. It is considered to be the country’s first independent state, and it contains nearly 200 ruins and several historical parks.

- Kanchanaburi: Home to the famed bridge on the river Kwai, Kanchanaburi has a dark World War II past but makes up for it with great natural beauty. The Erawan National Park, which protects a lush forest and wildlife, is located near the city, and there are several waterfalls in the city’s province.

Attractions at Chicago's Millenium Park

A graduate of Morgan State University in Baltimore, Maryland, Brittany A. Louis holds a bachelor of arts in public relations advertisement and media sales. In her free time, Brittany A. Louis enjoys traveling and has been to numerous cities, including Chicago, which offers a number of sites to see, such as Millennium Park.

A lakefront park in the heart of downtown, Millennium Park features not only open grassy areas for relaxing, but also the famous Pritzker Pavilion, which is an outdoor music venue designed by the famous architect Frank Gehry. The structure’s stage is surrounded by stainless steel curves and a steel trellis that hovers over concert goers, who can choose to sit in chairs or lounge on the grass as they take in summer performances.

Millennium Park is also home to the Bean, a large silver mirrored sculpture in the shape of a bean. Also known as "Cloud Gate", the structure was designed by artist Anish Kapoor, who was born in India and later moved to the United Kingdom. Every year, the Bean attracts thousands of visitors to see the reflections created by its unique structure.
